A lot has changed since sidux 2007-04 "Ερως" got released, most importantly additional hardware support for concurrent graphics-, DVB-, ALSA- and wireless LAN devices, which suggests to fresh up "Ερως", while continuing the development for sidux 2008-01 "Νυξ". Consequently we are now proud to announce the immediate availability of the sidux 2007-04.5 "Ερως" christmas special for amd64 and i686 systems, shipping in roughly ≈445 MB KDE lite flavours and a combined i386+amd64 release with ≈1430 MB KDE for kde-full.

sidux is a full featured Debian sid based live CD with a special focus on hard disk installations, a clean upgrade path within sid and additional hard- and software support. The ISO is completely based on Debian sid, enriched and stabilized with sidux' own packages and scripts.

It has been a turbulent week behind the scenes of Debian sid, with an accidental glibc upload, a broken openssl version (#449200) affecting wpasupplicant and ries.debian.org (ftp-master) breaking down due to filesystem problems. Nevertheless it is time to continue the preview season with our second preview heading towards our fourth sidux release "Ερως", concentrating on further X.org 7.3/ xrandr 1.2 and X detection testing and finalizing the driver selection for various wlan cards (please report any issues here). As usual the previews are shipping only as a small (≈460 MB), but fully functional, KDE-lite flavour, to ease up testing and xdelta uploads and will be accompanied by ≈700 MB KDE-full variants for the final release.

After quite some delays from our planned schedule, due to X.org 7.3 related issues of varying severity, sidux 2007-04 "Ερως" is now ready to enter the preview season for amd64 and i686 systems. A last minute update of xine-lib (1.1.7-2) in debian sid has dropped all previous dependencies of libxine1 on its required audio/ video plugins to "Recommends" (in preparation of implementing "Installation of Recommends by default on October 1st") and caused our initial sidux 2007-03 "Γαια" release to lose out-of-the box support for audio/ video playback (#437693). Already existing installations of 2007-03 "Γαια" can be fixed by updating "libxine1", "libxine1-ffmpeg" and fixing the group membership for "video".

This updated hotfix release fixes the audio/ video problems for live purposes and is targeted at preventing these issues for new installations.
