2008-03 amd64 boots fine on my intel mini, in fact it runs very smoothly, congratulations to all involved.
I have installed it on to an external fw drive, but it will not boot, I just get a message saying boot device not found, insert boot disk and press any key...
When running osx the installed disc is not recognised so cannot be selected as a startup disc.
So I am looking for suggestions as to how to move this on to a situation where it will actually start up of its own accord

never tried this.
But as those macs do not use a normal BIOS, but EFI instead, i guess you will have to look there to find out if/how this device can boot from USB.

greetings,
me

you can not boot from external usb disk other os than osx. same problem here with macbook. there are a lot of forums around trying to solve this question. but you can install sidux directly on your harddisk (if some gig free) using refit as boot manager. Another way seems to be with firewire but i'm not sure.

greets,
mig
