With Kernel later than 2.6.24 i discover many hangs on boot. About the time when the kernel modules should be loaded.
I don't know what causes this issue but i don't want to load something special.
The real bad thing is that after such a halt the disk isn't umounted properly. |

Which model of Eee PC do you have?
My 4G 701 occasionally hangs at the line "... setting system time", and I have to do a hard reset. This is maybe once every 10 boots or something like that. But it has done that on all kernels, since I got it in April, so I think it is a hardware timing issue, not the Linux kernel.
In smxi, there is an option to remove non-needed kernel modules (I'm a little afraid of it -- you can be the experimenter ....).  |

My eee 900 have exatly the same hangs on "setting system time". like dibl
also every 10-20 boots. |

I've never seen anything like that on my eeepc 4G with any of the kernels. I'd suggest opening a page in the wiki or a seperate bug report thread here for this.
I have installed sidux onto the ssd but have also frequently booted from a usb stick. Might the people with the problem all be running sidux from sd/sdhc or is there any other pattern (do you use any modules, patches from outside sidux, what exact kernel version are you having the problem with)? Another wild possibility is that it could be related to the bios version? |

Here is Eee PC 4G 701, BIOS Rev. 0910, 2GB memory, sidux installed to SSD, d-u to current kernel and packages. /home and swap are on a "permanently" inserted 16GB SDHC card.

I have set up Slax and booted it from a SD card, for experiments, but I normally boot sidux from the SSD. I haven't booted Slax often enough to know whether it will experience the occasional boot hang or not. |

I booted my 701-eeepc with the usb with sidux kde-lite
Then I installed sidux on my sd ( it tooks almost 1,4 gb) , using the standard sidux installer
At the end the installer returned me an ok, so I rebooted to boot my new real sidux
I changed the boot order to have sd first, BUT I got a grub error , complaining he cannot find any operative system.
What may I missed/did in the wrong way? |

1,4GB sounds too small -- I wonder if something is missing. On mine it was 2,1 or 2,2GB, before Firefox and OOO.
Unrelated issue:
What filesystem are you using? If ext3, you need to make special settings to reduce the logging and writing on the SSD. Maybe ext2 would be a better choice.  |

2.2 gb should be the kde-full install
kde-lite *should* be 1.4 gb ... if I'm not wrong
so I thinks is not an "incomplete" install issue ...
I used ext2, on my 2 gb secure digital (external) disk |

OK, that sounds reasonable.
There are two different BIOS settings that you have to adjust to change the boot device and the boot sequence. In the "Boot" screen, you have Boot Device Priority and you also have Hard Disk Drives. As I recall, you need to set the Hard Disk Drives, first, putting the "drive" that you want to boot on top. Then set the Boot Device Priority and put it on top there too.
I just checked mine -- I have the SiliconMotion SSD on top of the list in both those places, since that is what I boot from.
Also, on the "Advanced" screen in setup, in "IDE Configuration" I have the SiliconMotion SSD set as "IDE Master" -- that may or may not be relevant. |

yep, I set up the bood order.
usually i can boot my usb or my sd with BT or puppee.
I just can't boot sidux, grub is "complaining".
I should have done smtg wrong during the install .... just don't know what
I will retry again the install ... windows way

still a "missing operating system"
The asus can't see the sidux-grub on the sd
maybe I should try to change the "original" xandros grub menu to include sidux....
Or just install sidux on a pen , instead of using the sd..... |

| I made a nice bootable USB stick with sidux -- use "persistence" and "toram" and it loads into RAM and runs very well on every PC I've tried it on. |

I was unable to install sidux on the 8gb sd.
The only good result is a "persistent" live usb.
there's any way to have the wlan on the eeepc , with that "live" usb?
kernel is 2.6.25-9.slh.1-sidux-686. |

I can't believe how much trouble you are having! Is that the Erebos Live CD?
On the SDHC card, do you know that the card reader is a USB device? So if you want to install on the SDHC card, you must set the boot priority to boot from USB device first.
I installed on the SSD. I used GParted to wipe out the OEM partitions, and then installed sidux on it. I use the SDHC card for my data, and a Win XP VM. |
