The KDE Lite system, plus FF 3, OOO, Amarok and a few other packages is about 2.5G on my 701.

With debian sid + kde4 + ff3 + few other packages, I'm under 1gb...

I'd like to get sidux, but with kde4 and only the packages I want... Smile

If you put an 8GB or 16GB SDHC card in the card reader, and mount it as /home, then you can stop worrying about the SSD's limited capacity. Wink

I have installed the latest sidux on my eeePC 901 an converted it to KDE4. Everything works fine thanx to the sidux-comunity. But: the start
-console is not usabable. It jumps to the right and does not accept any input. So I cannot use smxi. I log in on another console and do an apt-get upgrate. After some outputs, the same happens.

Any ideas or help?

Thanx. I have added 3 behind vga=7.. . It does not help. Was it the right place. Or is that not the grub-bootline?

@ModestUser @cOkeiNtHebOtTLe @devil
sorry for my fault answer but today there was the 'Linux Day' and i proposed the problem to the expert users. It was very very strange: my sidux worked fine either in install either in remove. No error Shocked Surprised
maybe the problem was simply the sdhc card too heated? whatewer i thank everybody and i am disappointed becuse the italian community of sidux ... Sad
ciao

On my Asus Eee PC 901, the touchpad doesn't work very well at all. Unlike on a stock Debian Lenny install, 2 finger scrolling doesn't work, and neither does two finger middle click or three finger right click. Movement is also jerky. I tried dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg but that didn't fix it. Any ideas?

HOWTO: sidux 2008-03 Ourea on EeePC 901

This is how I got myself set up on a EeePC 901:

I burned the KDE-lite edition to a CD and installed from a USB CDROM. I just used the 4GB as / and the 16GB as /home.

Out of the box, everything works except for the wireless, fonts, special keys, and the touchpad.

1) Wireless

rt2860-source made it through NEW in Debian today, so it is now in non-free. As it was explained to me on irc, it will never be in sidux repos because it's trash (drops connection randomly, doesn't work with rmmod, doesn't work with udev). Somehow, it slipped into Debian though. This makes our job easier:

a. add non-free to your Debian sources
b. m-a a-i rt2860
c. echo "rt2860sta" >> /etc/modules

2) Hotkeys

Just:
a. apt-get install eeepc-acpi-scripts
b. echo "pciehp" >> /etc/modules

On boot you will get an error that the pciehp module has an extra parameter. To fix this remove the second option (not pciehp_force) from /etc/modprobe.d/eeepc.

3) Touchpad

slh has included the Elantech touchpad drivers. In the default configuration, they are trash. However, with a modified xorg.conf they work beautifully--circular scroll, right side scroll, etc.

I have attached a work xorg.conf.

EDIT: After talking with slh on irc today it looks like a fix for this will make it into the next release of sidux.

Until then just adding:

Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be enough. You do NOT need the xorg.conf that I provided.

4) Fonts

The fonts are set too large because the DPI is set to 132 instead of 96. Go to Kcontrol -> Fonts and change the DPI to 96. Restart KDE.

I hope this works for you!
