I have a Epson Stylus CX1500 All-In-One which i use primarlily for scanning. When I try to use Kooka, it stops half way when i try to get a preview. The same happens when I use XSane Scan.

Kooka says the unit is this:

EPSON EPSON MFP00

XSane Scan says it's this:

ESPON MFP00:004

when I did lsusb this is the info:

# lsusb
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 04b8:080c Seiko Epson Corp. ME100
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 2770:905c NHJ, Ltd Che-Ez Snap SNAP-U/Digigr8/Soundstar TDC-35
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I have 1.5 GHZ comp with 256 megs of mem.

Anyone have a answer?

Your Scanner seems to use the wrong backend (epkowa). It should use sane-snapscan instead: http://www.sane-project.org/cgi-bin/dri ... amp;p=080c

Unplug the Scanner, then deactivate other backends in /etc/sane.d/dll.conf by putting a # in front of them, and leave just snapscan active. Additionally deactivate epkowa in /etc/sane.d/dll.d/libsane-extras. Now plug in again and start Kooka.

Greetings,
Chris

to debug the possible memory shortage use free to check if your swap works

There should be enough memory as your (huge) swap is working.
Did you try to start kooka or xsane from a terminal or a console to ge some information from he running program? Do you find anything in the kdm.log or Xorg.log in /var/log/ ?

cheers Micha

These are only basic searches for errors, i do not know anything about Canon, sorry.

About the swap size. I always set the swap size to the slightly above the potential memory that can be installed on the computer. This computer can have 2 gigs of mem. Rolling Eyes
